Rwandan Genocide Documentaries: Shake Hands with the Devil and Ghost of Rwanda

Shake Hands with the Devil (2004) and Ghost of Rwanda (2004) are two documentaries that aim to explain the 1993-4 genocide in Rwanda. I thought that they were both very well-made, and definitely worth seeing. They are very educational, and give honest information in a way that cannot be found a Hollywood version of the story like Hotel Rwanda. Despite the fact that they are not high-budget films, Shake Hands with the Devil and Ghost of Rwanda are very interesting. They each feature interviews with experts on the subject, and chilling footage and photos from the actual events. Shake Hands with the Devil focuses more on General Romeo Dallaire's experiences, as it is based off of his book by the same name, while Ghost of Rwanda offers more general information. I would highly recommend these documentaries to anyone looking for a more in-depth understanding of the tragic Rwandan massacres.
